I had a fun time making Christmas cookies this year, even though it meant neurotically cleaning and moving the cookies around from surface to surface because we have a serious ant problem. They love sugar just as much as me!



I fashioned a double boiler to melt chocolate for the first time, and I'll definitely be doing that again.

Thanksgiving is the one family event that is non-negotiable, more so than Christmas. It's kind of funny, though, because in our family, every day is like Thanksgiving. We loves to eat! This is on New Year's Day, 2009, in Malaysia.

Happy Birthday America!

Somehow I am spending my Fourth of July in Washington, DC. Well, Dulles to be exact. I am on an 11-hour layover from Argentina to Spain--no fireworks for me tonight.

I spent last Independence Day at my friend Shannon's summer home in New Jersey--simultaneously celebrating her birthday. The neighbors all gathered at the lake and shot fireworks from the raft. It was so cozy and spectacular.

It was a happy coincidence for me that Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day were both on Sunday. This meant that instead of having to spend two separate holidays feeling lonely, I got it all out of my system in one day! This photo is the collision of "Dia de los Enamoradas" and "Ano Nuevo Chino" in Buenos Aires.



I am getting much better at shooting photos while walking in low light. After the sun went down, I had dinner in a restaurant called China Rose to round out the evening. It was the kind of Chinese restaurant where there were packaged Italian breadsticks on some of the tables (as well as on the floor), and they only served one-liter bottles of Heineken.
