Over the weekend, my aunt's Ikebana school held its biennial floral show. Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging. The show was at this community center in Cupertino and the demonstration room was so packed we couldn't even get in.

Richard Serra

I ended up seeing a lot of Richard Serra this past year--his work, not the man himself. I am consistently surprised at how much I love his work. I saw his wood sculptures at both the MoMA in New York and the Guggenheim in Bilbao, and both times I was overwhelmed by a sense of reverence for space, time, and nature. And I am not usually into "stuff like that."

This is a piece of his that I saw at the Reina Sofia in Madrid. Again, completely in awe of it. Why? I don't really have a vocabulary to talk about sculpture. All I can say is that I went back to see it after I was done looking at the Guernica.

New favorite thing to do in Chicago: make out in Millenium Park at the Cloud Gate sculpture.

I went with my roommate to an art opening for Milo Lockett, one of the artists du jour here in Buenos Aires. It was hard to get around inside, and a lot of the art was blocked by: people taking photos, people being interviewed, and the complimentary bars. At one point this wood-framed portrait of the artist was escorted in with an entourage of people bearing pink umbrellas. It was a cool scene, but alas I could not shoot it because I am of the short variety, and was caught in a throng of people.

My roommate Saeed asked me to play piano in a theatrical performance he's directing. Yesterday I joined their third rehearsal.



What a cool experience to suddenly be sucked into the theater world. It is like an alternate universe.

My friend Courtney Myers asked me to shoot some photos for a FlavorWire story she's doing on FeatBA, a Buenos Aires design collective. This was my favorite of the series. This is Sol de Rio of Taller Taller ('taller' means workshop), setting up a projection screen to show us some of her multimedia work.
